The client was a person of independent taste, with a preference for unconventional and lively solutions — not out of a desire to appear modern, but from a genuine need for authenticity, warmth, and atmosphere.
Originally, the installation was conceived as a three-part composition: a large freestanding fireplace, a heating stove with a cooktop, and between them a grill fireplace. The latter was initially planned as a masonry structure with its own flue, into which a cast-iron insert could later have been installed. However, the client eventually decided against this solution — and in retrospect, it was the right decision. A separate installation for that exact purpose was later created outside this room. But that belongs to the story of another project.
A great deal of natural stone was used in this installation. Without doubt, the centerpiece of the entire ensemble was the large freestanding fireplace. It was built with an external air supply: air enters through an opening in the outer wall, flows through the structure, and cools the core of the fireplace in the process. This allows the fireplace to operate for an exceptionally long time without overheating.
That this was not merely theoretical was proven in real use: during winter, the fireplace ran continuously for several days without any negative effect on the structure. Ordinary domestic fireplaces are generally designed for intermittent use rather than continuous burning. It was precisely here that this fireplace demonstrated its exceptional reliability.
Because the freestanding fireplace has a large opening, it was given its own chimney. Both this chimney and the chimney of the heating stove were equipped with spark protection.
The complex is located in a picturesque riverside resort area on the banks of the Siverskyi Donets.
