The idea for this project came about in a rather unusual way. One evening after a working day, the client and I were still sitting together and having a beer. The evening was cool, and the client said, “It would be good to warm up here right now — let’s build a fireplace here.” I agreed immediately, and he added that it should be something special — made of bold, rough stone, with real character. That was how this project began.
The fireplace was built from massive, rough stones, carefully set and firmly joined together, with additional reinforcement in selected areas. The interior is lined with fireclay bricks, which protect the natural stone from direct heat and high temperatures.
At the top, the smoke outlet is covered with a large capstone. It does not fully close the opening, but protects the interior from rain while still allowing the smoke to escape freely.
The construction of this fireplace took about two weeks. Inside, a strong fire grate made of thick steel was also installed, designed to withstand intensive firing.
This is a fireplace made for comfort and atmosphere. The warmth rises from below and gently heats the legs. A fire like this creates a very special mood: it is the kind of place where people naturally want to sit in the evening, drink a beer, smoke a pipe, and almost without noticing it begin talking about life, time, and the meaning of existence.
This fireplace is located at a recreation site on the Siverskyi Donets River.
